The Fractured Atlas of Jelara #26 Cthulhu Prophecy

For this assignment, we were asked to design an imaginary creature. With Halloween approaching, I chose to develop a concept inspired by Cthulhu. Although I am still drawn to the idea—particularly the giant mouth and the creature holding its own eyeball in its hand—the final result did not fully meet my art teacher’s goal of practicing how to personalize beasts and transform them into more charming hybrids. I understand that I need to make another attempt. In this painting, I also began experimenting with acrylic markers, which proved especially useful for building the luminous background because of the strong coverage of acrylic ink. During the process, I decided to darken the face and deepen the shadows on the princess to strengthen the overall contrast and mood.
